Este tipo de caja cuenta con 2 largos, 2 anchos y 1 fondo. Las tapas ó los fondos se traslapan parcialmente o completamente.

Las solapas exteriores de una caja fol casi se superponen, lo que hace que esta caja sea muy resistentes al áspero manejo. este estilo se usa cuando se necesita más resistencia, El grosor extra del cartón corrugado en los paneles superiores e inferiores ofrecen mayor resistencia de apilamiento.

La estructura de una FOL no necesita cinta adhesiva, pero se puede pegar con las mismas.Puede ser pegada con cola o cosidas, aunque generalmente son cerradas con grapas.
